How to take chocolate on a picnic without melting it

Chocolate makes the perfect portable dessert with one caveat – it prefers temperatures cooler than 70 degrees. Despair not, you can have your chocolate and eat it too this summer!

With a little care and planning, chocolate can go with you to the park or on a summer road trip. Here’s how::

  • Pack your chocolate in a cooler: alongside your other chilled snacks and beverages, you can pack your chocolate in a cooler filled with ice. Just be sure to wrap your box of chocolate in a sealed plastic bag before adding it to the cooler to avoid condensation.

  • Serve it outdoors: contrary to popular belief, you can serve chocolate outdoors in the summertime! Our trick is to add a sealed freezer bag full of ice to a deep baking tray, such as a cake pan. Then add a tea towel over the ice. Lastly, place your plate of chocolates directly on top of the towel. Be mindful that this will only work in shaded environments – chocolate and sunshine don’t mix!
