Truffles: How did you happen to come to work at Sweet Designs?
Kassie: I’ve always pretty much worked in retail for years and years with five years at my most recent company. I was thinking about making a change and then COVID came along with the potential of a cut in hours, so I started to look. I saw your ad and then I went to the website and saw the video of Ines and I knew I had to work here at Sweet Designs. I texted my best friend immediately and said ‘I found the perfect place to work’. And the rest is history, I’m so thankful.
Truffles: What’s an average day at Sweet Designs like for you?
Kassie: There really is no such thing as an average day at Sweet Designs. That’s a part of what I love – I love a challenge. It’s really cool that I was hired to answer the phones and process orders, but now I’m doing that and much more. Today I might be needed in shipping or in the packing room or helping in the kitchen. A lot of times, I’m helping up front in the store. I love that. That's what's so great about the place - everyone is hands-on and everyone works together.
Truffles: You sound like you’re really happy here.
Kassie: I’ve been waiting forever to come into a job like this. It’s really an environment where you’re allowed and encouraged to grow. A place where you’re appreciated, and everyone truly does work together. It’s hard work, but we’re all in it together and we have fun as we continue to grow and learn. It’s really like a family. If you can come to a job you love, it makes the rest of your life better.
Truffles: Any big surprises since you’ve come here?
Kassie: I didn’t realize how complex the business would be. There is so much involved. I love the hustle and bustle and I never knew I could enjoy a job this much. You work, but it’s rewarded. Ines is like a mom to everyone. She’s also one of the hardest-working people I’ve ever met. She genuinely wants people to grow. There’s a sense of community here and we’re all in it together.
Truffles: Tough parts of your job?
Kassie: Shipping! I have so much respect for Renee and the job she does with managing the shipping department. There are so many things to consider – the weather, the packaging, the best way to ship a product, etc. It’s been a real eye-opener.
Truffles: When you’re not working, what do you enjoy outside of work?
Kassie: My interests are all over the place. Art, music, the outdoors. I love being near the lake and being able to walk everywhere. The best decision I ever made was to move to Lakewood. I’m a big music fan and I enjoy watching my brother’s band play. I enjoy putting my ear-buds in and just walking around. I also enjoy camping.
Truffles: Any messages for our customers?
Kassie: I appreciate all of them and their patience. We’re all here to help them get what they want.
Truffles: Your favorite chocolate?
Kassie: It’s an impossible question, but I really love the sea salt caramels.
